The Apollo Club of Brooklyn was organized in June 1878 and incorporated in 1879. The Club's organization brought together male singers from the then-City of Brooklyn who enjoyed choir singing and performance. Despite being a male-only choir, female soloists regularly performed with the Apollo Club and many women joined as subscribing members.
